In my opinion, iTerm is everything Terminal.app should be. The only thing I don’t like about iTerm is its icon. To compensate this, I decided to make an icon replacement. I really like the new Adobe Creative Suite 3 Icons … They look simple and neat. To make a long story short, here’s a CS3-styled iTerm icon free for download: Download iTerm.icns 41 KB
Installation
- Open your Applications folder and
CTRL-Click on iTerm.app.
- Select “Show Package Contents”.
- After the “iTerm”-folder has opened change into the “Contents”-folder, then into the “Resources”-folder.
- Find iTerm.icns and rename it to “iTerm.icns_bak” to have a backup.
- Copy the downloaded “iTerm.icns”-file into the “Resources”-folder.
- Restart iTerm.
Thanks. I don’t like the original iTerm icon because it is hard to distinguish from all the other bluish icons.
Best regards,
-jay
Thanks.
:)
Hey is there any chance to get the psd of this icon? Cause i like to make a few more icons for my fav apps.
great work
Rob.
Thanks
interesting to see that i’m not the only one who doesn’t like the iTerm icon. nice job, yours is much nicer and easier to distinguish when alt-tabbing between apps.
simple but satisfying improvement, good call.

Thanks, this is great it really stands out when Apple+Tabbing through my apps
I found that I needed to remove iTerm from the dock and re-launch it (or re-drag it there from Finder) after I copied the new icon file across to make it work – just restarting iTerm didn’t do the trick.
Great icon by the way :) I’ve got so many blue icons in my Dock as well, so it’s really handy to have something different.
Awesome, I’ve just googled it with no hope.
I’m not designer (so it doesn’t match with the adobe icons I don’t have) but it’s way better than the original.
I’ll look for others more programmer-like.
Thank you!
Thanks! I understand their desire to pick a color scheme that “matches” the mac, but when I am tabbing through applications, it was hard to pick it out from mail, finder, itunes, etc. This is perfect!
